Class Descriptions:

Little Ninjas

  • Class Ages: 3-5
  • Class Times: Monday – Friday 3:45-4:30pm, Saturday 9:15-10:00am

Main Focus:

  1. Teaching Kids How to Learn – Learning starts with a calm body, eyes & ears on the instructor and following group directions.
  2. Safety – Home and community safety skills to keep kids safe.
  3. Movement Skills – Fundamental locomotor skills, bilateral coordination, breakfalls and rolls.
  4. Fun – Activities that young students find enjoyable while practicing safety and movement skills.

Kids Karate

  • Ages: 5-10
  • Class Times: Monday – Friday 4:30-5:30pm, Saturday 10-11am

Main Focus:

  1. Discipline – The traditional martial arts culture of discipline through example, enforcement of rules and accountability.
  2. Focus – Through karate kata by memorization and execution of sequential techniques that become progressively more difficult and complex.
  3. Cooperation – Peer tutoring to develop empathy and patience. Group tasks to practice working well with others.
  4. Intermediate Locomotor Skills and Coordination – Creating better athletes by focusing on core athletic skills using the skill theme approach to physical education.
  5. Endurance, Flexibility & Strength – Exercises, drills and games to create healthier stronger bodies.
  6. Basic Self-Defense Skills – Techniques and strategies to promote situational awareness, evasion skills and the ability to fight when flight is not an option.

This class teaches the students the fundamentals and skills to better prepare them for the self-defense focus of the Practical Karate class.

Practical Karate

  • Class Ages: 10+ or Orange Belt and higher
  • Class Times: Monday – Friday 5:30-6:30pm, Saturday 11am-12pm

Skill Levels: Beginner to Advanced. Instruction is adapted to accommodate all skill levels and abilities.

Main Focus:

  1. Exercise — Using martial arts training methods to improve cardiovascular fitness, strength and flexibility. A strong body and good cardiovascular condition are pre-requisites for effective self-defense skills. Flexibility is essential for injury prevention and longevity.
  2. Self-Defense – Using techniques and training methods from traditional martial arts to combine them with various martial arts for practical self-defense skills. Preparing the body and mind to be ready in case you need it.
  3. Culture – The culture of traditional martial arts to teach students the value of courtesy, discipline, achieving goals, hard work, perseverance and the growth mindset.
  4. Co-ordination – Techniques and drills to improve co-ordination and challenge students to improve their mind body connection.

MMA

  • Class Ages 10+
  • Class Times: Monday & Wednesday 6:30-7:30pm

Skill Levels: Beginner to Advanced. Instruction is adapted to accommodate all skill levels and abilities.

Main Focus

  1. Self-Defense – The goal of this class it to teach technical proficiency in all of the skills for mixed martial arts with self-defense in mind. Students learn stance & footwork for balance in attacking, defending, distance control and evasion. This class also teaches body mechanics for punches, blocks, parries, kicks, knees, elbows, takedowns and takedown defense with maximum efficiency for power and energy expenditure. Students also learn ground defense to submit or get back to the feet.
  2. Exercise — Using mixed martial arts training methods to improve cardiovascular fitness, strength and flexibility. A strong body and good cardiovascular condition are pre-requisites for effective self-defense skills. Flexibility is essential for injury prevention and longevity.

Sparring

  • Class Ages: 8+ or Orange Belt and higher
  • Class Times: Friday 6:30-7:30pm Saturday 12:00-12:30

Main Focus

  1. Stance, guard, footwork, timing & rhythm for attacks and defense in practical application. Light sparring with a focus on technique and control to improve fighting ability without the injuries that occur from hard sparring. Combinations and principals are drilled to create good habits, technical proficiency and appropriate reactions.

Judo

  • Class Ages: 8+
  • Class Times: Wednesday 5:30-6:30pm, Saturday 12:30-1:30pm

Skill Levels: Beginner to Advanced. Instruction is adapted to accommodate all skill levels and abilities.

Main Focus

  1. Fundamentals of Judo – Ukemi (breakfalls), Nage-waza (throwing techniques) and Ne-waza (grappling techniques). Students learn how to fall appropriately to avoid injury. Throws & takedowns for creating dominant positions. Grappling techniques for reversals, joint locks, chokes and positional control.
  2. Exercise — Using Judo training methods to improve cardiovascular fitness, strength and flexibility. A strong body and good cardiovascular condition are pre-requisites for effective self-defense skills. Flexibility is essential for injury prevention and longevity.
