Royce started training in Shito-ryu Karate at two years old in his parents' dojo, San Diego Japan Karate Center. With both parents as U.S. National Karate champions Royce was born into karate and grew up on the mat. While attending the University of California Riverside, he coached the UCR Karate Team and started training in Kickboxing and Muay Thai. In 2020 he earned his bachelor's degree from UCR, graduating Summa Cum Laude with a major in Sociology, emphasis on criminology and social psychology.
