Kickboxing Classes with Royce Allas

Change is a natural part of growing, and right now at Practical Karate, we’re at one of those moments that brings both an ending and a fresh start. We’re sad to share that our boxing coach, Gabriel Miglioli, is leaving, but we’re also excited to support him in his next steps and to introduce a new program that will give our students even more ways to learn striking.

Gabriel Miglioli has been a key member of the Practical Karate family for several years. His love for boxing, dedication to his students, and drive to help athletes at every level have left a strong mark on our community. Whether teaching beginners or experienced competitors, Gabriel always brought energy, professionalism, and skill to every class.

Now, Gabriel is taking a big step toward a dream he’s worked on for years. He’s opening his own school in Kearny Mesa, called Miglioli MMA Striking, where he can keep building his vision and share his knowledge with even more martial artists.

We’re sad to see Gabriel leave Practical Karate, but we mostly feel proud and excited for him. Everyone who knows Gabriel understands how much effort and dedication he’s put into his martial arts career. Opening his own school is a dream he’s worked hard to achieve. We wish him the best and look forward to seeing Miglioli MMA Striking succeed.

Royce

As one chapter ends, a new one begins.

With Gabriel moving on, Practical Karate is excited to start a new Kickboxing program led by Royce Allas. This class will continue our tradition of practical, effective striking and introduce students to a mix of martial arts styles you don’t often find together.

Many in the Practical Karate community already know Royce Allas as a skilled karate competitor and instructor. He’s known for his timing, footwork, speed, and technical skill. But his martial arts experience goes far beyond karate tournaments.

Wanting to grow as a striker and gain experience in full-contact competition, Allas started training in Muay Thai and kickboxing at the well-known Blue Ocean Muay Thai gym with Kru Alex Palma. Blue Ocean is one of Southern California’s top striking gyms and has produced many elite fighters who have competed at the highest levels.

At Blue Ocean, Allas learned a striking system that mixes traditional Muay Thai with Dutch-style kickboxing. This style focuses on strong low kicks, aggressive combinations, solid defense, and constant pressure. It’s a practical, proven approach that works well in top-level competition.

One of Blue Ocean’s most famous athletes is Tiffany “Time Bomb” Van Soest, who is considered one of the best female kickboxers ever. Before she became a world champion, Van Soest was already a skilled karate black belt. Her move from karate to full-contact striking showed how traditional martial arts skills can be very effective when combined with modern kickboxing.

While at Blue Ocean, Allas helped Van Soest get ready for several fights. Working with such a top champion gave him valuable experience and insight into preparing athletes for high-level competition.

Even more importantly, Allas saw firsthand how Van Soest used her karate background in kickboxing. Her way of mixing karate footwork, quick movement, timing, and distance with the strength of Muay Thai and Dutch kickboxing had a big impact on how he approaches striking.

Now, Royce uses those lessons in his teaching.

Students in the new Kickboxing classes at Practical Karate will get a unique training experience that blends the best parts of several striking styles. Karate brings movement, speed, angles, and timing. Muay Thai adds powerful kicks, knees, and clinch work. Dutch kickboxing offers aggressive combinations, strong defense, and pressure fighting.

But Royce kept developing as a striker.

In recent years, he has kept learning about modern kickboxing and has added ideas from Japanese kickboxing too. Japanese kickboxing is known around the world for its technical skill and exciting style, especially through athletes in organizations like K-1.

One fighter who has influenced Allas is Yuki Yuza, a standout competitor from Japan’s famous Vasileus Gym in Tokyo. Yuza is known for his creative combinations, precision, movement, and adaptability, showing the modern side of kickboxing. Fighters from Vasileus Gym have shown how traditional martial arts ideas can work well with modern kickboxing to create strong fighters.

Inspired by these styles, Royce has created a teaching approach that is both effective and easy to access. Beginners will find a friendly place to build strong basics, good technique, conditioning, and confidence. Advanced students will find a detailed curriculum that covers timing, angles, combinations, footwork, and fight strategy.

The new program isn’t just about learning to punch and kick. It’s about giving students a full striking education that builds athleticism, self-defense skills, confidence, discipline, and a deeper understanding of martial arts.

As Practical Karate grows and changes, this new Kickboxing program shows our commitment to high-quality teaching that respects tradition and welcomes new ideas. We’re very grateful for all that Gabriel Miglioli has given to our school and community, and we’re excited to support him as he starts Miglioli MMA Striking.

At the same time, we’re looking forward to seeing the impact Royce Allas will have as he teaches students this exciting mix of karate, Muay Thai, Dutch kickboxing, and Japanese kickboxing.

A new chapter is starting at Practical Karate, and we invite everyone to come try it out. Whether you’re an experienced martial artist, a competitive athlete, or brand new to the mats, the new Kickboxing program offers an exciting, challenging, and rewarding path for you.

We can’t wait to see you in class.
